We arrived to Puerto Sherry already last Tuesday. After crossing the finish line in the late afternoon, it took us some time to prepare the boat to enter the marina. Once berthed, we were greeted with a glass of Sherry, offered by the local representatives. In addition we got a big bucket of iced drinks, allowing us to celebrate our arrival.
Once everything on the boat was stowed away, we took advantage of the Spanish rhythm. It was absolutely normal to enter the restaurant after 10pm and order lots of food. It was a real treat after the previous days.
The following days were pretty busy. On Wednesday we started with the deep clean, which means we take everything out of the boat to clean every corner. Here the tiredness showed and the deep clean took us almost the entire day. In the evening we then went to Cadìz, where we enjoyed a really nice dinner. We were treated to local specialities for almost four hours. Thank you very much Alonso for organising this.
On Thursday we started with a few repairs and modifications. We had no major failures, so it was only small jobs. In addition, we had noted a few areas where we would be able to improve. Progress was much better this time so that we got the Friday off. This allowed us to take a stroll down to the beach and take a short bath in the Atlantic Ocean.
This morning we continued with a few other small jobs on the boat, before heading to the crew briefing with all the other teams. Once again we were presented with details to the course and the expected weather. The forecast is looking much more favourable this time around. It should only take us about one day to reach the trade winds. They will then take us reliably south west and towards the equator.
I am looking forward to this next stage and hope I can write and publish a few updates from underway. Otherwise, there are two other options for keeping updated. The official website will publish short videos and reports from all 10 teams. And there is our team’s social media channel. The link to that is on the bottom right corner of this page. Lastly there is of course the race tracker.
